Garbage Collection and Disposal Services

The Yard Waste Collection Season will end on Friday, October 13, 2023, for City of Toppenish customers who subscribe to the yard waste pick-up service.

All yard waste service customers are asked to store their yard waste cans securely until service begins again in the spring. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at (509) 865-4500.

Sanitation drivers collect your refuse once per week and follow certain routes each day. In order to provide timely refuse collection, please note the following requests from your waste management team.

  • Please have your can out by 7:00 am on your collection day
  • All garbage must be bagged
  • Place your can with handle and wheels facing your residence
  • All waste must fit inside the can with lid closed
  • Extra set outs will not be collected. Do not block can with excess garbage
  • 3-5 feet clearance on each side and 18 feet clearance above cans

Refuse containers must be removed and relocated to private property no later than 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection. Callback fees, noted on the Fee Schedule that is available under Public Documents, will be charged to those accounts that have failed to put out containers on the proper day or proper time of day that results in the required return of the collection truck. If you have questions regarding garbage collection, please contact the Public Works Department, at (509) 865-4500. If you have questions about your garbage bill, please contact the Finance Department at (509) 865-2080.

Make sure that your container is not overfull (the lid must be closed). Overfull containers will spill out onto the street as the truck is dumping the can and may create a safety hazard to our customers. If containers lids are not closed properly, an overfull charge, noted on the Fee Schedule that is available under Public Documents, will be assessed to your bill.

The container remains the City’s property and is assigned to your residential address. They are not to be used anywhere else other than the address they are issued for.

The Public Works Department does not pick up hazardous waste. Household hazardous chemicals (paint, pesticides, and pool chemicals) should be taken to the Hazardous Waste Facility located at the Cheyne Landfill.

Observed Holidays will affect refuse pick up dates. Please check the Holiday Refuse Schedule for alternate pick up dates.
