Toppenish Police Department Announces the Appointment of Chief Joe Mehline

Toppenish, Washington – February 2, 2024 – After 30 years of distinguished law enforcement service, including the last two years with the City of Toppenish Police Department. Chief John Clary announced his retirement in December, with his last day as Chief being January 31, 2024.

Chief Clary’s tenure has been marked by steadfast dedication to community safety and the advancement of policing standards in Toppenish. Under his leadership, the department has implemented innovative strategies to enhance public trust and ensure the well-being of residents.

In light of Chief Clary’s retirement, the Toppenish Police Department proudly announces the appointment of Chief Joe Mehline, a seasoned law enforcement veteran with over 17 years of experience including serving the residents in Toppenish since January 18, 2022. Chief Mehline brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the role, having previously served as second in command as Police Captain. The appointment of Chief Mehline reflects the City’s commitment to maintaining continuity and excellence in policing.
